About

The Pipit Writing Competition was founded by Brigitte Rozario in 2024. She is a writer, editor and trainer based in Malaysia.

Brigitte started writing as a child and spent days coming up with her own stories, which she is thankful she never saved. She joined The Star newspaper in 1989 as a reporter and moved up the ranks to become a portal head and then deputy editor.

During her free time, she wrote a children’s picture book series titled The Adventures of Beebo & Friends. Illustrated by Vayfern, the books were published by MPH Publishing.

After leaving The Star, Brigitte wrote and edited for individuals and companies. She has even ghostwritten some books for personalities in Malaysia. She teaches children and adults to write. In 2018, she started the Junior Writers Programme where 20 youngsters are trained to write fiction stories. The programme culminates in a published anthology featuring short stories written by the young scribes.

Brigitte publishes books written by her and her students.

She also organises a writing competition for children aged 11-14 called the Merdeka Writing Competition.
